DANICA DAKIĆ
Running like a common thread through the work of Danica Dakić is the issue of the identity, which she addresses by incorporating different parameters into her work, such as personal, psychological, geographical, social, cultural and political factors. 1 Tauber Tanz Project Description The project was realised in cooperation with the dance troop from the Bosnian Homeland Association "Bosanski Vidici", based in Düsseldorf, Germany, and with the generous support of the Culture Department of the City of Düsseldorf. The Düsseldorf theatre house provided the costumes. The dance group performs the "Gluvo Glamocko kolo / Dance of the Deaf", a circular tap-dance, which originated from the village of Glamoc in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Performed traditionally without any musical accompaniment, the dance’s rhythmic structure is maintained solely by the voice of the dance leader, who issues short commands to indicate changes in step or movement. Comprising 16 Bosnian immigrants, the dancers wear theatre costumes from various historical epochs. The video installation explores cultural identity at the interface of the Balkans and Europe.
