DRITON HAJREDINI
The idea that painting as an art genre is dead is not a new one. It has been declared and demonstrated on various occasions and in various ways. The artist Driton Hajredini reopens the subject by presenting it in an ironic context. He treats this death as a simple homicide, by staging a crime scene in the same way the police does when a crime occurs. He first staged his idea at the Arts Academy in Prishtina, an institution which in the installation is displayed as a lifeless place with no identity of its own. Hajredini´s question „Who killed painting?“ seems to remain open and unanswered. But in practice the artist is still not certain whether painting is really dead or not, publicly declaring: „I swear, I am a painter!“ Shkëlzen Maliqi |
